We built RetirementGardenr.com for one reason: to help retirees keep doing what they love — gardening — without the pain, strain, or struggle. Your privacy matters to us just as much as your garden does.
This page explains — in plain English — exactly what information we collect, why we collect it, and how you stay in control. No legal jumble. Just the truth.
1. Who We Are
We are RetirementGardenr.com, an independent content website dedicated to helping senior gardeners find the best ergonomic tools, raised bed setups, and practical advice to keep gardening comfortably through retirement.
You can reach us at:
- Website: retirementgardenr.com
- Email: privacy@retirementgardenr.com
2. What Information We Collect — and Why
We only collect what we genuinely need. Here’s the full picture:
A. Your email address (only if you sign up)
If you choose to join our newsletter, we ask for your first name and email address. That’s it. We use this to send you gardening tips, new article notifications, and the occasional product recommendation we think you’ll find useful.
We will never share your email with anyone. We will never spam you. And you can unsubscribe from any email we send you with one single click — no questions asked.
B. Information your browser shares automatically
When you visit any website, your browser automatically sends some basic technical information — things like what type of device you’re using, your general location (country or city level, not your home address), what browser you use, and which pages you visited on our site.
We receive this information through Google Analytics, a free tool that helps us understand how people use our site. For example, it tells us that most of our readers visit on a tablet in the morning, or that our article on garden kneelers is more popular than our article on composting. This helps us write more of what you find useful.
We do not see your name, your address, or anything personally identifying through analytics. Google processes this data on our behalf, and you can opt out of Google Analytics entirely by installing the free Google Analytics Opt-Out browser extension at: tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout
C. Nothing else
We do not collect payment information (we don’t sell anything directly). We do not collect your phone number. We do not ask for your home address. We do not build profiles about you. We do not track you across other websites.
3. Amazon & Affiliate Links — Here’s How That Works
You’ll notice that some of our articles contain links to products on Amazon and other retailers. When you click one of these links and make a purchase, we may earn a small commission from the retailer — at absolutely no extra cost to you. The price you pay is exactly the same whether you click through our site or go directly.
This is how we keep the website free. It pays for our time, hosting, and the hours spent researching and testing products so you don’t have to.
A few important things we want you to know:
- We only ever recommend products we genuinely believe are useful for senior gardeners. We don’t promote products just because they pay a higher commission.
- We always disclose when a link is an affiliate link. You’ll see a note at the top of every review and buying guide.
- Amazon and other retailers set their own cookies when you click through. These are standard shopping cookies that retailers use to track purchases for commission purposes. They don’t give us access to your personal information.
We are a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising programme designed to provide a means for sites to earn advertising fees by advertising and linking to Amazon.com.
4. Cookies — What They Are and What We Use
Cookies are tiny text files that websites store on your device to remember things — like your preferences, or whether you’ve visited before.
Here’s exactly what cookies we use on RetirementGardenr.com:
Essential cookies — These make the website work properly. Without them, things like page loading and security features wouldn’t function. You can’t opt out of these, but they contain no personal information.
Analytics cookies (Google Analytics) — These help us understand how visitors use the site. All data is anonymised — we see patterns, not individual people. You can opt out via Google’s tool mentioned above, or by adjusting your browser’s cookie settings.
Affiliate cookies (Amazon & others) — When you click a product link, the retailer places a short-term cookie on your device to track whether you completed a purchase. This is standard practice across every affiliate website. It doesn’t give us access to any of your information.
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers let you block, delete, or be notified about cookies. The only downside is that some parts of our website may not work perfectly if you block all cookies.
5. Your Newsletter — What to Expect
If you subscribe to our newsletter, here’s our honest promise to you:
- We’ll send you practical gardening tips and new article recommendations — typically no more than a few times per month. We don’t email for the sake of it.
- We’ll occasionally mention a product we think you’d find genuinely helpful. We’ll always be upfront that it’s a recommendation, and if it’s an affiliate link, we’ll say so.
- We will never sell your email address to anyone. Not ever.
- We will never share it with third-party marketers.
- You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the link at the bottom of any email. We remove you immediately.
We use a trusted third-party email provider to manage our mailing list and send emails securely. Your email is stored safely with them. We have reviewed their privacy practices and are satisfied they meet appropriate standards.
6. How Long We Keep Your Information
We believe in keeping things simple:
- Newsletter subscribers: We keep your details for as long as you’re subscribed. The moment you unsubscribe, your details are removed.
- Contact messages: If you send us an email or fill out a contact form, we keep your message for up to 12 months in case we need to follow up, then it’s deleted.
- Analytics data: Google Analytics retains anonymised usage data for up to 26 months by default.
We don’t hoard data we don’t need.
7. Your Rights — You’re in Control
Depending on where you live, you have rights over your personal data. Regardless of where you are, we believe in honouring the spirit of these rights for everyone who uses our site:
You can ask us what we have about you. If you’ve subscribed to our newsletter, we can tell you exactly what information we hold.
You can ask us to correct it. If your email address changes or something is wrong, just let us know and we’ll fix it.
You can ask us to delete it. Want us to remove your information entirely? Just ask. We’ll do it promptly.
You can unsubscribe anytime. Every newsletter we send has a one-click unsubscribe link at the bottom.
You can opt out of analytics. Use Google’s opt-out tool or your browser settings to stop analytics cookies.
To exercise any of these rights, simply email us at privacy@retirementgardenr.com and we’ll respond within 30 days.
8. Third-Party Links — A Heads Up
Our articles link to lots of external websites — Amazon, product manufacturer pages, gardening resources, and so on. Once you click and leave our site, their privacy policies apply, not ours.
We link to reputable sites and try to only recommend destinations we’d be comfortable sending a family member to. But we can’t control what other websites do, so please have a quick look at their own privacy policies if you’re ever unsure.
9. Children’s Privacy
RetirementGardenr.com is designed for adults — specifically retirees and seniors. We do not knowingly collect any information from anyone under the age of 13. If we ever discovered we had done so accidentally, we would delete it immediately.
10. Keeping Your Information Safe
We take reasonable steps to protect the information we hold. Our website runs on secure hosting with HTTPS encryption, which means information sent between your browser and our site is protected.
That said, no system on the internet is 100% secure. We’re a gardening website, not a bank — we don’t hold financial information or sensitive personal data, which means the risk to you is minimal. But we still take what we do hold seriously.
11. Changes to This Policy
If we ever update this privacy policy — for example, if we add a new feature or change how we handle data — we’ll update the date at the top of this page and note what changed. If it’s a significant change, we’ll mention it in our newsletter too.
We recommend bookmarking this page if you’d like to stay up to date.
12. Questions? Just Ask.
If you have any questions about this privacy policy, or anything about how we handle your information, please reach out. We’re a small, independent website and we actually read every message we receive.
- Email: privacy@retirementgardenr.com
- Contact form: www.retirementgardenr.com/contact
We aim to respond to all enquiries within 48 hours.
Thank you for reading. Now get back to your garden — it needs you! 🌱
